Old Town Lafayette’s Sunday’s are about to get deliciously fun.

It started with a spark. And some beans. And a few bees.
When Peter and Margo moved to Lafayette, they saw an opportunity to build something local and lasting. With experience as vendors themselves—Peter, a longtime coffee roaster, and Margo, a former public school teacher turned beekeeper—they know what it takes to show up, set up, and connect with customers.

They’ve always believed that farmers markets can do more than sell food. They can support small businesses, bring neighbors together, and give people a reason to stick around and chat. That’s the kind of market they’re building here in Old Town Lafayette.

A Market with a Mission.
Five years ago, this duo launched the City Park Farmers Market in Denver with one goal: to bring the Denver farmers market scene to a higher level of intention and exposure. They focused on helping shoppers get to know the vendors, understand where their food comes from, and build real connections through a more robust marketing program, and re-establishment of farmers being the focal point of farmers markets. It was a simple idea, but one the community embraced.

When they landed in Lafayette, they could feel it. The existing engagement with local foods, the growing young family population, and the uptick of small businesses calling Lafayette home all pointed to a gap that was ready to be filled. It was clear the town was ready for a farmers market that could stick. So they got to work—anchoring a location on Public Road each Sunday from May through October and building a market that gets woven into the community’s fabric.

Behind the Booths: What Really Goes Into a Market?
Getting all of the small businesses unloaded, set up, and ready to sell in under two hours each week is no small task—and that’s before factoring in weather, permits, and early mornings (with plenty of coffee). But for Peter and Margo, the hustle is part of the fun. They’ve done it before, and they know the behind-the-scenes work is what makes market days run smoothly.

“Market days can be long, but the job is a really nice mix of physical labor, marketing, vendor support, and problem solving,” Margo says. “We’ve both been vendors so we know what it’s like to set up a booth, share your story, and hope people connect with what you’ve made. That’s what drives us—to create a market where that connection actually happens.”

Meet Your Makers (Literally)
At Lafayette you’ll have the chance to meet and grow relationships with over 70 passionate small business owners who are farming or producing local food in some capacity. That is what makes farmers markets special – they are closing the loop on local supply chains, building trust with food producers, and creating meaning for your weekly groceries.

Fresh Food, Made More Accessible
The Lafayette Farmers Market accepts SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB), which helps stretch food dollars for fresh fruits and vegetables.

They are also committed to supporting small, local vendors—especially those who don’t have big marketing budgets but bring a lot to the market. Good food, fair prices, and a place where everyone belongs.

So… What Can You Expect When You Visit?
There will be live music bouncing down Public Road. Kids dancing in the grass in front of the new Punch Buggy. A warm pastry in one hand and a bag of locally grown greens in the other. A vendor remembering your name. Someone recommending a new jam you have to try.

It’s relaxed. It’s joyful. It’s Lafayette, in market form.

This market is rooted in the community. Peter and Margo live in Lafayette. Their kids go to school here, they shop local, and you will likely run into them out and about experiencing the area just like the rest of the residents.

“We’re excited to build something with this community, not just for it,” says Peter. “We hope the market becomes part of people’s routines—a place where shoppers and farmers know each other by name, where kids grow up with the market as part of their Sundays.”
