Lafayette History Museum
Lafayette History Museum
The Lafayette History Museum is Lafayette’s only history museum, and the historic house shares its origin story with many of the homes that occupy Old Town. Built as company housing for coal miners in the 1890s, the house was moved to its current location during the Long Strike (1910-1914), and eventually became a local history museum in 1975. Operated by the Lafayette Historical Society, a community nonprofit, the museum strives to be a vibrant center that identifies, preserves, protects, and honors the heritage of Lafayette while inspiring curiosity to shape the future. The museum contains a wealth of Lafayette history from the early days of pioneer heritage, through the coal mining era, and into the present.
