Shop Small, Give Back Big: Vintrey Honest Good’s Commitment to Sustainability and Community

Looking for a shopping experience that’s as meaningful as it is stylish? Meet Vintrey Honest Goods, the family-owned treasure trove in the heart of Old Town Lafayette. Founded by Jordan Lewis and Ricci Harke, a brother-sister duo with a passion for ethical sourcing, sustainability, and handcrafted goods, Vintrey blends global influence with local charm to offer a curated collection that’s all about quality, community, and giving back.

Ready to shop with a purpose? Let’s dive into the story behind Vintrey and the goods that make it so special.

Manifesting a Purpose-Driven Brand

As brother and sister owners, Lewis and Harke were raised in a socially conscious household where human rights, equity, and inclusion were a regular topic of discussion—something the family was passionate about.

As such, the Vintrey brand has roots in the nonprofit space. The co-owners were focused on helping at-risk women and children and wanted to find an approach outside of simply doing fundraising as one would do with a traditional nonprofit organization.

This is where the idea for a brick-and-mortar store was born in 2011.

Harke, a co-owner, said, “We started to see the real need in our own shopping experience to purchase things that were sustainable—where we knew where it was made and who made it—and where we understood who benefits and profits.”

While sustainable shopping and spending is not a new concept, it is a focus that has gained traction with many consumers who want to know that the products they buy and the cash they spend move through a production and supply chain that does not exploit workers and the environment.

The Vintrey Value System

Today, the store has its private product label and features local artisans and craftspeople who share the same value system regarding how things are made.

Harke and Lewis’s mission for the store was to provide a space where a shopper could walk in and feel confident that all of the “heavy lifting” involved in the conscious shopping experience had been taken care of for them—and that featured merchandise was vetted for ethical sourcing.

“It’s a full circle situation,” explained Harke. “We have built a community both in-person and on Instagram. So, it goes beyond shopping alone, and there is excitement there. It’s not just about selling something. For instance, when someone buys a candle, and I know that a friend made that locally, I get excited to place another order. It’s people helping people. We place people first—ultimately, we’ll never eliminate consumerism. But we can place the community at the forefront.”

With that in mind, Vintrey Honest Goods will not compete against a giant like Amazon. The store offers some specialty products, including vintage goods (which consumers recognize is one of the best approaches a shopper can take when engaged in sustainable shopping). The store offers various products, including clothing, home goods, and apothecary items. However, Harke and Lewis will never feature a product sold at a Big Box Retailer or a mega-site online.

“Everything is very specific to us,” stated Lewis. “That’s what we have always been about.”

A Shopping Experience that Makes You Feel Good

Walking into Vintrey Honest Goods is not a transactional experience. The store has been designed thoughtfully to go beyond purchasing or swiping a card.

Instead, it’s essential to ownership that a shopper leaves the store happy because they had a fulfilling and fun time.

“We want someone to experience the sights and smells. Feel good about the conversation they had with team members,” said Lewis. “Shoppers should feel alignment when they are here—and carry that joy as they carry on with their day.”

A Commitment to Giving Back

One of the causes near and dear to Lewis and Harke’s hearts is giving back and fighting against human trafficking. Their mother runs a nonprofit focused on preventing this egregious human rights abuse, something that causes suffering to millions of people around the globe.

“We go to India once a year and work with artisans there but also to spend time with kids who are either at-risk or who have been saved from a trafficking situation,” explained Lewis.

The company also supports a variety of other human-centric causes—and is eager to connect with organizations or advocates who share these values.

Vintrey Honest Goods also hosts a “Maker’s Market” on-site five or six times a year that features the wares of local vendors.

“The vendors keep 100 percent of their profits from each of these events,” said Harke.

Another fun event is an annual Old Town Lafayette dinner party that involves local restauranteurs and businesses that provide food, cocktails, table décor, and design. There are usually 80-100 attendees at each dinner party. Make sure you check out the next one by visiting Vintrey’s website!
