Things Are Looking Peachy in Lafayette

The Lafayette Peach Festival is back for its 24th year along S Public Rd. in Old Town!

The Lafayette Peach Festival didn’t always resemble the succulent soiree we know and love today; it actually began as the Lafayette Art and Antique Fair, hosted by the Lafayette Old Town Association and Lafayette Chamber. The event coordinator at that time introduced Morton’s Orchard, located in Palisade, Colorado, with the idea of incorporating peach sales into the next year’s fair schedule, eliminating the need for people to travel through the mountains for their peaches.

Unfortunately, luck wasn’t on their side, as the peach crops failed in that year. The Lafayette team had to act swiftly and decided to purchase some California peaches to salvage the event. Let’s just say they weren’t a big hit with the attendees. However, the festival’s enduring legacy demonstrates that the Palisade peaches sold the following year were a resounding success.

This year, the Peach Festival, a free event, will take place on August 19th from 9 am to 4 pm along S. Public Rd. It features a vast array of over 160 vendors offering unique art, delectable treats, crafts, jewelry, clothing, and more. There will be two kids’ entertainment areas, face painting, balloon artists, food and ice cream trucks, peach cobbler and pie stations, and, of course, a mouthwatering selection of Palisade peaches. This extravaganza attracts over 20,000 visitors to Lafayette annually.

Three certified organic peach growers from Palisade, CO, Organic Peach Ranch, Morton’s Orchard, and Tate Orchard, will have their peaches available at three locations along Public Rd. You can find the event map here. Together, they will bring 40,000+ pounds of peaches to our town for this one-day celebration. Funny enough, those peaches, along with the 600+ pans of fresh peach pies, pans of peach cobbler, and individual servings of peach cobbler, available for sale at Festival Plaza and in front of Lafayette Florist, can sell out before the event concludes. Therefore, we recommend arriving as early as possible.

A few additional things to note: dogs are not allowed at this event, as the day is expected to be very hot, and we want to ensure their little paws remain safe. You can park on any side street or neighborhood road along South Public Rd, and local businesses will also join in the peachy fun, showcasing their best peach flavors, accessories, and more. So make sure to explore all the businesses lining the festival and beyond. You never know what cute and unique finds you might come across in Old Town Lafayette.
