Jonathan Powell’s Mambo Jazz Party @ Muse Performance Space

Jonathan Powell’s new group Mambo Jazz Party draws from his 20 year freelance career as a trumpet player in the NYC salsa and latin jazz scene. After being a member of Eddie Palmieri’s groups for 10 years as well as recording and performing with Arturo O’Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, Miguel Zenon Big Band, Oscar Hernandez and Spanish Harlem Orchestra, Ricky Martin, and Tito Puente Jr among many more, Jonathan’s love for the music runs deep.

The members of Mambo Jazz Party are some of the hottest in the genre worldwide including legendary trombonist Jimmy Bosch (Ruben Blades, Eddie Palmieri, FANIA All Stars), Grammy nominated pianist Manuel Valera (Arturo Sandoval, Dafnis Prieto), flute player Itai Kriss (Televana, Los Hacheros, Orquesta Akokan), trombone player Ryan Keberle (Miguel Zenon, Maria Schneider), drummer Camilo Molina (Santana, Eddie Palmieri), conga player Marcos Torres (La India, Tito Nieves), bassist Alex Apolo Ayala (Eddie Palmieri, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Spanish Harlem Orchestra), saxophonist Remy Le Boeuf (Assembly of Shadows, Bob Mintzer Big Band) and Jonathan’s brother saxophonist Jeremy Powell (Eddie Palmieri, Arturo O’Farrill).

Jonathan Powell’s Mambo Jazz Party is set to release their debut self-titled album on Circle 9 Records August 9th 2024.

WOW! Literacy Festival

Join us for the WOW! Literacy Festival on May 4, 2024 from 1:00-4:00pm in partnership with the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI).

More than twenty children’s book authors and illustrators will be on hand thoughout the afternoon with readings, fun activities, and opportunities to get your book signed. Books will be sold at WOW! through a table set up by The Read Queen.

Included with admission or membership, and financial support is available for those in need.

This always-free public event is held on the second Friday of the month, May through Sept. 2024, from 5-9 pm on Public Road between Emma and Cannon Streets in Lafayette, Colorado.

Festivities begin at 5pm, with two full city blocks, closed to traffic, with up to 50 art vendors and eight food trucks. Enjoy live performances by the Center for Musical Art and the ArtsHUB, plus a caricature artist, face painter, balloon artist, magician, and street performers. 6pm features pop up performances that celebrate Colorado’s cultural diversity. The monthly headliner starts at 6:30pm, with dancing in Festival Plaza until 9pm. There are always plenty of great free activities for families and friends to enjoy! History of Denver’s Chinatown Film – Office of Storytelling

The remnants are gone, but Denver was once home to the largest Chinese enclave in the Rocky Mountains. At its peak, nearly 1,000 residents lived along Wazee and Blake streets from 15th to 17th in what is now Lower Downtown. So what happened to them? The latest documentary from the Denver Office of Storytelling, inspired by descendants of those early residents, explains.
