Indie Rock Night w/ The Nova Kicks, Spliff Tanks, and Sunrise Daydream

March 2, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

The Nova Kicks – A destructive sound wave of distorted grooves and soul in the shape of a high energy performance. Writing personal to impersonal songs that bring awareness to the beauty and tragedy of the human experience. The band holds close to their influences in Rock n roll and punk music but destroy the notion that a band should stick to one genre.

Spliff Tank – Creators of a unique blend of new wave melodies with garage rock & psych-punk. Playing energetic shows in Fort Collins and Denver since 2019.

Sunrise Daydream – Fort Collins based indie rock band that isn’t afraid to get a little heavy at times!

Metal Night w/ Leveler, Bone Creature, Shadows of Eden

March 2, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Leveler – American Metalcore band hailing from the Majestic Rockies of Colorado! Formed by guitarists Kyle Augustin, Emanuel Pilas, and drummer Kyle Burklow in Early 2017, LEVELER was born! Often described as the summit of “driving riffs, crushing drums, and melodic hooks”, LEVELER draws influence from bands such as In Flames, Unearth, As I Lay Dying, Shadows Fall, Children of Bodom, and many more. Known for energetic live shows with excellent showmanship, LEVELER is carving out their place amongst the modern metal genre. The band has released two studio albums to date; their latest, Ad Infinitum (2021) has set the bar for today’s new evolved metalcore sound!

Bone Creature – Denver based metal band that combines elements of thrash and melodic death metal. Formed in 2019, the group consists of vocalist/guitarist Jesse Thomas, vocalist/guitarist Nicholas Teeter, bassist Danny McNeely, and drummer Michael Hand. Their first album, Bone•Jour, is out on all major streaming platforms and they are currently writing their second album. They absolutely adore long, lonely walks on the beach while simultaneously crying to “Levelers Greatest Hits” which is their direct and greatest influence

Shadows of Eden – New band from Broomfield, Colorado, making waves in the music industry. Strong will and determination pushed Shadows of Eden forward, but raw talent has kept these young musicians strong and alive. Shadows of Eden prides themselves on a beautiful, versatile sound and broad fanbase, and takes their listeners on a compelling journey of thoughts and emotions with every release

What’s In A Name: The History of Boulder Park Names

March 2, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Place names, or toponyms, mark and define our landscapes. In Boulder, city park names reflect the history of the city and its peoples. Moreover, they present a certain image of the city and its values.

In looking at the history of these places and who or what they are named after, we can learn more about the park and the cities they are in. The histories of places like Barker, Eben G. Fine, Fitzgerald, and Martin Parks reveal the histories of some of Boulder’s earliest settlers and leaders, and asks all of us, what is in a name?

Presented by Kim Jackson. Jackson is a PhD candidate in history at the University Colorado, Boulder. She is studying 20th century American environmental history. She has been involved with the Boulder Parks Naming Project since its inception.

Radical Lafayette: The Colorado Coal Strike of 1927-1928

March 2, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

The Lafayette History Museum’s newest exhibit, Radical Lafayette: The Colorado Coal Strike of 1927-1928, explores an era when the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW, or “Wobblies”) fanned the flames of discontent. All eyes were on Lafayette as the town became the center of the Wobblies’ radical and militant workers’ rights movement. The exhibit features the roles played by women and the KKK.

During the 1927-28 Colorado Coal Strike, protestors—about half of them Latino—regularly marched through the company town of Serene, where the Columbine Mine had continued operating. But on November 21, 1927, the gates to the mine were locked, and when the crowd refused to disperse, state police opened fire, killing six and injuring dozens. No charges were ever brought against the police, predominantly Klansmen whom Colorado Governor Billy Adams had recently designated ‘strike police.

Women were an important part of the union movement. They led marches, organized protests, and spoke at union meetings. Elizabeth Gurley Flynn, one of the women who helped launch the 1927-28 strike, earned the nickname Rebel Girl, a moniker later adopted by the choir of young girls who sang at every union meeting.

Always free. Wednesday through Friday 10 am to 2 pm, Saturdays 8 am to noon.
